1. Who is our Client - Serwach Spółka z o.o.
Serwach Spółka z o.o. is a family-owned company, exclusively with Polish capital, operating continuously since 1996. The company’s specialty is packaging made of corrugated cardboard. It also produces packaging and products from solid materials as well as packaging with offset printing in the lamination technique.
2. The Problem They Wanted to Solve
Serwach, operating in a dynamic business environment, made a conscious decision to examine its impact on the natural environment through precise monitoring and reporting of its greenhouse gas emissions.
The company focuses on continuous development, increasing ecological awareness, and modernity understood as adapting to contemporary times, also in terms of energy consumption. The company’s goals also include maintaining quality by ISO standards and achieving profitability.
The challenges that prompted Serwach to seek a solution for calculating its carbon footprint stemmed from continuous legal analysis and contact with a bank that recommended the company for an appropriate program. The company’s goal is to find solutions that enable compliance with future regulatory standards. Although Serwach is not currently subject to direct regulatory obligations, it wants to be prepared for future requirements.
Not calculating the carbon footprint would have relatively small consequences since Serwach has preliminarily estimated the product’s footprint for two years. However, in the future, it could limit the company’s ability to supply selected clients and result in consequences arising from legal regulations.
In the past, the company attempted to calculate the carbon footprint independently and fragmentarily, but it lacked comprehensiveness and sufficient knowledge. It used simple tools that did not meet its expectations.
3. Why Did They Decide to Collaborate with Plan Be Eco?
The company decided to collaborate with Plan Be Eco due to the bank’s recommendation. The selection process involved board members and the quality department. The key factor in evaluating the available options and choosing Plan Be Eco was bank support. 4. Scope of Collaboration
Serwach needed support in:
- Calculating and interpreting the carbon footprint to identify sources of the largest emissions
- Preparing a report by the GHG Protocol
- Preparing reduction recommendations to implement immediately to start the journey toward climate neutrality
- Demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmental protection and corporate social responsibility
- Increasing the company’s attractiveness as an employer, benefiting from employer branding advantages
5. Results
Thanks to the analysis conducted by Plan Be Eco, Serwach gained a complete picture of the emissions associated with its operations. The process took approximately 2-3 months.
Serwach’s carbon footprint amounted to 5,378 t CO₂e.
Using Plan Be Eco’s tool allowed for a huge time-saving that the company would have otherwise spent searching for the right indicators and according to Serwach, the first year of reporting saved the equivalent of half an employee’s work time. The company’s contractors responded positively to the news that Serwach had already calculated its CO2 emissions. Additionally, the company decided to reduce emissions by building its energy sources. The process is estimated to take 2-3 years, and the first permits have already been obtained.
